The Five-Minute Morning Ritual

A short, repeatable sequence to wake the face, drain overnight puffiness, and set the tone for the day.

The Five-Minute Morning Ritual

Consistency beats intensity. A five-minute sequence you actually perform every morning will outperform a forty-minute practice you attempt twice a month.

Before you begin

Wash your hands. Cleanse the face. Apply a few drops of facial oil so your fingers glide rather than drag — friction on dry skin is the one thing to avoid.

The sequence

1. Three breaths (30 seconds). Inhale through the nose for four counts, exhale for six. Let the jaw unhinge slightly on each exhale.

2. Lymph sweep (60 seconds). With flat fingers, sweep from the centre of the face outward toward the ears, then down the sides of the neck toward the collarbones. Light pressure. Ten passes.

3. Cheek lift (60 seconds). Smile with the lips closed, then place fingertips lightly on the tops of the cheeks. Lift the cheeks toward the eyes and hold five seconds. Release slowly. Ten repetitions.

4. Brow smoothing (60 seconds). Place both index fingers just above the brows, press gently, and try to raise the brows against the resistance. Hold five seconds, release. Ten repetitions.

5. Jaw and neck (60 seconds). Tilt the head slightly back, extend the lower lip over the upper, and feel the platysma engage along the neck. Hold five seconds. Eight repetitions.

6. Close (30 seconds). Cup the palms over the eyes, breathe once more, and let the face rest.

Making it stick

Anchor the ritual to something you already do without thinking — the kettle boiling, the shower warming. The face responds to rhythm, and so do we.
